March 28, 2021 was the first ever Virtual Lions Tribute Day.
Lions Clubs International and City of Hope share a core principle of humanitarian service and concern. And both organizations have made tremendous contributions for the good of mankind. Lions Clubs International’s support for City of Hope over the last six decades has been, and continues to be, an invaluable resource in furthering City of Hope’s mission of advancing science while providing compassionate care.
That partnership continues to grow with the launch of the Lions Clubs Diabetes Innovation Fund at City of Hope. Through this newly created collaboration, researchers may find new ways to prevent and treat type 2 diabetes and its many complications. The Lions Clubs Diabetes Innovation Fund will support projects that are diverse in aims, with studies identified and prioritized by their potential. The fund will sponsor the most promising new ideas through a competitive selection process that would award up to two seed grants for a combined total of $100,000 per year, with the potential for renewal. The selection process and oversight will be conducted by a team of expert City of Hope researchers.
Together, the Lions Clubs and City of Hope have set a global goal to confront diabetes. The experimental new research advanced by the Lions Clubs Diabetes Innovation Fund may reveal how type 2 diabetes develops. This knowledge could lead to treatments that will spare hundreds of millions of people from strokes, heart attacks, kidney disease and other illnesses that result from the disease. Through the Lions Clubs Diabetes Innovation Fund, City of Hope can continue to push the boundaries of science to discover preventative measures and advance treatments that extend quality and length of life for people living with diabetes around the world.
