As you know, when a new club is chartered, The Association of International Lions Clubs (LCI) issues them a tax exempt status under a “blanket” authorization by the IRS and I believe that they also provide the federal tax ID#. This covers their 501c4 activities, which is a tax exempt, membership organization. Clubs are required to segregate funds received from the members in a separate account from funds received from the public (anyone who is not a member of that club or from any other organization). Those funds received from non-members are treated the same as if they were being administered in a charitable foundation with the primary difference being that they cannot offer the donors a tax deduction.
