Plan to join the Lions Clubs of District 4-C6 on SUNDAY, 10/10/10 in downtown San Jose for this fundraising run or walk and Healthy Living Fair at the Guadalupe River Park Arena Green adjacent to HP Pavilion. 

 Last year we had10 Lions Clubs form teams and we were one of the top fundraising teams for the ADA to accomplish its mission which is to prevent and cure diabetes and improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.  The American Diabetes Association is a Lions District endorsed project.  It is important for all Lions Clubs to participate, since diabetes is the leading cause of preventable blindness.

We will also have the Lions AJ Robinson Mobile Health Screening Unit at the Healthy Living Fair.  We need helpers for either the 8 to 11 am shift or 11 am to 2 pm.

 This epidemic affects 24 million Americans.  Your support of the ADA Walk will help them dedicate more funds towards finding a cure for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes as well as provide information, education, programs and services in our community. 

 Information is power and Type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed by learning about diabetes and having a healthy, active lifestyle.  Participating in Step Out can help our Lions members, friends, and neighbors to set an activity goal to walk daily as we are all at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, already have diabetes, or know someone who has diabetes.

 Contact your clubs team captain from last year about being a team captain again this year or be the team captain for your club by signing up at main.diabetes.org/stepoutsanjose.

Last year (click here for pictures) we had Mariachi entertainment, the year before that a Marimba band.  Always fun, always festive.  We hope we have repaid their hospitality in some small way with our delicious tri-tip dinner, prepared by PDG Dennis Miller and the wonderful music provided by the Tenth Avenue Jazz Band which was arranged for by Lion Jim Goodheart.  Lion Jan Miller did a great job of decorating with flowers from her garden and of coordinating with Lion Debbie Berumen of Montebello to make this trip happen. Save the date of the last weekend in March 2011 for next year’s bus trip to City of Hope for Lions Appreciation Day and a visit with some very special friends that we’ve made in District 4-L2.  If you’ve never toured the City of Hope facilities, it is educational and inspirational to see where our donations go in support of City of Hope research and treatment.

The Orientation is tailored to all new members as well as older members who have not attended any Orientation Classes. We will be covering all Lions areas, from International, MD4, and our own District of 4C6.

Having a better understanding of the mechanics of Lionism will help you find your nitch within the organization. You should come away from our class with a knowledge and excitement at all the possibilities available to you.

Please make sure all of your club members, new and seasoned, know about this special evening of training and fellowship. Spouses are also encouraged to attend. Be sure your new members are personally invited to this training and that their sponsors attend with them.
