Silicon Valley adds HOPE Services Branch

Today, 10 new Lions became members of the HOPE Services Branch of the SIlicon Valley Lions Club of Mountain View. Immediate Past District Governor Marlene Duffin inducted the new members and District Governor Joe installed the officers. Mountain View Mayor Ronit Bryant was on hand to present a proclamation from the city.

HOPE Services provides programs and services for children, adults and seniors with developmental disabilities. This new branch club offers some of their clients the opportunity to participate more fully in their community, volunteering their time and enjoying fellowship with their fellow Lions.

Mission Trail Lions Mourn Loss ofLion Juanita Martin

Lion Juanita Martin passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 23. Born in Roseville, CA on June 27, 1922, she moved to Carmel after marrying the love of her life, J. B. Martin, Jr., on July 10, 1960.

Juanita enjoyed knitting, baking and, above all else, spending time with her family. She was also very fond of penguins, Reba McEntire, crossword puzzles and her extensive Teddy Bear collection and was proud to be a charter member of the Mission Trail Lions Club of Carmel. Juanita passionately supported the projects of the club, Diabetes, White Cane, and City of Hope.

Juanita, or “Nana” as her many great-grandchildren called her, is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, CST Lion Jean and ZC Lion George “Bud” Westcott, granddaughter Lion Ginger Huse and grandson Lion George “Wes” Westcott, all of Mission Trail Lions Club, son Millard Martin of WA, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Willow Glen Lions moving to Hobee’s Pruneyard

Willow Glen Lions would like to announce that they have moved meeting locations to Hobee’s in the Pruneyard. It is in the back of the shopping center near the Camera Theatre. You can park in those parking lots in the back or in the parking structure, where there is always lots of parking.

Their meeting time has remained the same. They meet the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of every month: 6:00-6:30 order food and socialize, 6:30-8:00 meeting.

District Level Student Speaker Contest

The District 4-C6 Student Speaker Contest will take place on Sunday, April 25th, 2010. Time of assembly is 1:00 p.m. Actual speech contest starts at 1:30 p.m. Contest will take place at the Northside Community Center, 488 6th Street, San José. (Cross street is Empire Street).

Region Chairs must please provide PRC Joe Armas all the information required by MD4 73rd Annual Student Speakers Contest booklet as soon as possible but no later than 2400 hrs, April 18, 2010.

Topic is “Universal Healthcare — How will it affect us?”

Roast Joe, the DG not the bean

Come join us as we roast DG Joe Pugliese on his special night. We’re starting things early this year so that our Lions friends from the southern part of the district can easily attend.

It all starts at 2:45 on Feb 20 at the Santa Clara Valley Blind Center, the same place as the cabinet meeting. $25 per person, no tickets sold at the door, all proceeds to benefit the Blind Center.
