Stem cells reverse blindness caused by burns

Dozens of people who were blinded or otherwise suffered severe eye damage when they were splashed with caustic chemicals had their sight restored with transplants of their own stem cells — a stunning success for the burgeoning cell-therapy field, Italian researchers reported Wednesday.

The treatment worked completely in 82 of 107 eyes and partially in 14 others, with benefits lasting up to a decade so far. One man whose eyes were severely damaged more than 60 years ago now has near-normal vision.

Help us achieve a future without women’s cancers

City of Hope is expanding the power of Walk for Hope.  With the help of Lions and other loyal supporters, we’ve raised nearly $30 million to fight breast cancer.

But we want to do more.  We want to save more women.
We want to build a future without women’s cancers.
Walk for Hope is more than a fundraiser.
It is a movement.

More than 700,000 women will be diagnosed with cancer this year – nearly 70,000 will die from breast and gynecologic cancers.  When you donate to City of Hope you support research, treatment and education dedicated to making sure your mothers, wives, sisters and daughters live longer, better lives.  Click here to view pictures from Lions for Hope for City of Hope 2009.
