Almaden Super’s first annual Blanket Drive was a huge success.

The story was told of a yellow blanket that was donated to Sacred Heart Community Service, and a reporter from the Mercury News that followed the yellow blanket to a family that had two children and one blanket between them. Thus was the seed that was planted in the club.

From that article we laid the groundwork for the Blanket Drive. We contacted radio and TV stations, local newspapers and magazines, and many ran our PSA. We posted flyers in local business windows and visited many Lions Clubs. We also contacted several city councilmembers and asked them to put something in their newsletters. And in the end we collected 767 blankets!

The Almaden Super Lions would like to thank all the Lions for their help in this worthwhile project. We could not have done it without you! So when it is cold and you throw that extra blanket on the bed, remember that because of your thoughtfulness, someone is sleeping a little better tonight.

Thank you again and we will be back next November to do it again.

Christmas Dinner Baskets

District 4-C6 Event
Lion John McCarron, President, Scales of Justice

Last year a young woman received a box of food and a good size frozen turkey and she burst into tears. Calmed down she explained her cupboard was nearly bare and she didn’t know what she would do for a Holiday meal short of asking help from her family.

You may have pushed that box along the tables, you may have filled it with canned goods, rice, beans, potatoes, carrots and fresh fruit. You may have put the frozen turkey in a bin for distribution.

And you can do it again at San Jose State University Police Garage, 377 S. 7th Street, San Jose on the corner of South 7th & San Salvador Streets at 7 am on Saturday December 19, 2009. Dress warmly and wear gloves. Everyone over age 10 can help!

You can also help set up on Friday starting at 9:00 a.m. Volunteers needed to sort food and toys. Contact Lydia Montaño for details.

SJ Holiday Parade a ROARING Success

A super huge Thanks to the over 130 Lions and and Leos that participated in the 2009 Holiday Parade. And a VERY special thanks to Lion Val Issacson and her crew of health screen workers at the AJ Robinson van, you guys make this a truly charitable event!

It was a cold and almost wet morning but spirits were high and the coffee, hot chocolate, donuts and other delights made it very worthwhile for all who participated.

THANK YOU ALL! Can’t wait for next year.

Lion Peter and Lion Alan
