Last year 1300 needy children began the school year with new backpacks filled with school supplies. This year more than ever, there is a large need for these children to have the supplies to begin a successful school year. Providing backpacks to needy children is a wonderful way to do hands-on work in your community. Every club has the opportunity to participate in this wonderful program. For info call Judy Froom at 408-782-6287 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Just a reminder that if you haven’t sent in your order form for this coming year’s directory advertising, the deadline will be here before we know it. Published in July, this directory will reach over 500 Lions in this district and across California. This is a great opportunity to advertise your business, acknowledge or congratulate club or district leadership or advertise your club project or event.
As of this writing, premium placement is still available for the inside back cover. In these difficult economic times, you’ll be pleased to know that rates have remained the same as last year.
The earlier your payment is received, the better placement your ad will get in the book. Payment and finished artwork are due by May 15th. Download the order form. The three boxes you will see on the form represent the three ad sizes available.

Yennie Shyu, a 12-year old, 7th grade student at Sierramont Middle School is now an internationally recognized artist which started by winning a local competition sponsored by the Milpitas Executive Lions Club.
Shyu’s poster was among more than 350,000 entries submitted worldwide in the annual Lions Clubs International Peace Poster Contest. Lions Clubs International sponsors the program to emphasize the importance of world peace to young people everywhere. The poster advanced and was selected by Lions District 4-C6 for its originality, artistic merit and portrayal of the 2008-09 contest theme “Peace Begins With Me.”
On February 14, the young artist together with her parents accepted her award as winner of California MD4 from Lions Club International President Al Brandel. On March 13, Shyu with her parents attended the 31st Annual Lions Day with the United Nations to accept her award for the International Contest.
