The California Lions MD4 Council of Governors Organizational Meeting in Redding, August 3 -5, 2018 is cancelled due to fire conditions. The host Red Lion Hotel has advised that their facility has been transformed to support the fire fighters and other emergency personnel. Right now we ask that you keep everyone affected in your thoughts and prayers, including the firefighters, first responders, our Lions brothers and sisters, friends, neighbors and the beautiful communities up and down our state that are in harm’s way.
District Governor Sue Kerr and her District C1 committee will oversee formal cancellation of the Council of Governors hotel contract and the voiding of individual Red Lion room reservations that were secured through the Lions discounted room rate, and also meal reservation payments.
Plan B for the Council of Governors Organizational Meeting is as follows so that necessary MD4 business is conducted:
1. Student Speakers Contest: Lion Perry Lynn, Student Speakers Chair, and his committee will meet including via conference call to refine the over 150 submissions of proposed topics, and submit a short list of about five to the District Governors. The DG Council will schedule to meet via conference call within the next two weeks to select the topic. DG Don Gall will oversee this process.
2. Committee Budget hearings: Lion Mike Ferrier, Chair, Budget & Finance Committee, will email a form to each MD4 Committee Chair regarding budgetary line item financial requests. Conference calls may then be scheduled for hearings, as may be determined by the Budget Committee. This work will be overseen by DG Skip Zehnder and is to be completed in August.
3. 2VDG training: The plan is to re-schedule for Wednesday, October 24 at the Santa Maria Radisson. DG Dave Hubbard is facilitating with the hotel. Essentially, the Fall COG will commence one day earlier to cover any necessary remaining business from the cancelled Redding COG.

I have GREAT NEWS. The 2017-2019 Council of Governors has chosen to offer four $750 sponsorships for Leos interested in attending the 2nd USA/Canada Leo Leadership Forum which will take place August 1st thru 5th, 2018 in Westchester, New York. The sponsorships will cover the registration fee, hotel room and four days of meals for participating Leos. The sponsorship does not cover airfare to and from New York, but it is hoped that the Districts and/or sponsoring Lions clubs of the Leos selected to receive the sponsorships may be able to assist with the cost of air travel. Ground transportation from JFK airport of La Guardia airport to the Forum will be provided. Continue reading →
