Please join us for lunch and informal training on how to conduct a club-level Student Speaker Contest. All members of the district are invited to come share their experiences of running a student speaker contest. This is a great opportunity for those committee chairs that have not yet run their first contest to learn from those who hold it annually. Then we will open it up to any topics that are on your mind. Please RSVP to Lion Jeanine for a map to the house and let us know the count for lunch. Email: jeanine at garlic dot com.

The Gilroy Garlic Festival (July 24, 25, 26) is one of the biggest fund raisers for the Gilroy Lions Club. However, this year they are a little short handed and would appreciate help from the other clubs to help them make their quota. Volunteers will either serve food, act as cashiers, or be on the maintenance crew for a 5 hour shift. These volunteers have a special parking area, get into the festival for free, and receive a free meal after their shift. It is a wonderful way to help another club and enjoy the festival for free.
Available shifts are Friday afternoon (4 slots); Saturday morning (3 slots), afternoon (5 slots); Sunday morning (5 slots), afternoon (3 slots). For further information contact Lion Dean Raymond (email@example.com)
Save the date for another great Stop Hunger Now event. The San Martin Lions will host a food packing session on Sunday, May 31, 2015 starting at 8:30 am. Unlike previous Stop Hunger Now campaigns the district has held, this session will be paid for by the San Martin Lions Club. This event is a wonderful opportunity for all Lions Clubs, Leo Clubs, and Lioness Clubs. For more information, download the Stop Hunger Now Flyer.
Thirteen additional teams are needed as election couriers by the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters (ROV) on election day (November 4, 2014). You do not need to be a resident of Santa Clara County to participate. This opportunity is open to all Lions and non-Lions invited to participate by a Lion. A team consists of a driver and navigator who will drive to two precincts and collect the 7 items, including the ballots. The teams then drive the ballots to the Registrar of Voters office on Berger Ave in San Jose, where another team of volunteers unloads the car for you.
Each team will receive a $120 stipend, plus mileage for your efforts. To qualify, teams are required to take a short training class. You can donate both the stipend and the mileage to either your club or to 4C6 for help running our district.
To sign up, call Rosemary Chavez (ROV) (408) 282-3282. For more information about the program, call Lion Jeanine at (408) 210-5515
